Interest Groups

Music Groups

The Shed's own Music Group, officially “The Shed Boys”, started up in October 2016 with a thoroughly workable group established within weeks. Some months later, we’re set up with a steady team, a solid and diverse (and evolving) repertoire.

The core objective of the group is to be inclusive & to welcome players of all standards, with some very experienced members available to provide guidance. Our experienced core is key, because it provides a solid sound base that enables relative beginners to play within their capabilities and still contribute to a great sound.

Weekly get-togethers are held on Wednesday evenings, starting at 7pm and going to somewhere between 8 and 9. Our repertoire can come from any of our participants, and currently encompasses folk, country, bluegrass, traditional and modern.

Newcomers are always welcome, either just come along on a Wednesday to check us out or bring an instrument if you want to get straight into it. Or if you’re a regular visitor to the shed in the morning, you might catch one of our occasional performance spots after morning tea.

The Shed Boys convenor is Bruce Varley. For contact details contact the Shed (details on home page).

SHEDSong is a concept commenced in late 2021 to encourage blokes to "make a noise"! It has developed into a lot more than that and enjoys good support every Tuesday from Shed Members and non-members alike. Head to the SHEDSong page for more information.

Catering Group

The Shed Catering Group was formed in 2021 to bring together several Shed Members who had volunteered to help with the provision of a light meal to be served after the Shed’s Monthly Meeting.  The Group comprises four people who have self-rated themselves as ‘Cooks’ and around eight ‘Assistant Cooks’.  In addition to catering for the Monthly Meeting, the Group may also be requested to provide other catering services for the Shed.

The Group also plans to gather once every 3 months for a social dinner.  One of the Cooks will provide the menu and the ingredients for a three-course meal to be cooked by the members of Group.  This activity is designed to be part cooking lesson and part a social get together for those involved.

If any other Shed Members are interested in joining this Group, please contact Dave Beckley, the Group Co-ordinator.

Vehicle Repair Facility

The Vehicle Repair Facility was established in 2018 for the benefit of the growing number of members who enjoy restoring classic vehicles. There are now (May 2019) some 40 interested members with vehicles ranging in age from nearly 100 years old to all the way up to modern classics such as Morgans and Aston Martins.

The Shed has been donated a two-post hoist which has been restored and is located at the rear of the shed. There is also a growing cache of tools available, which in conjunction with the well fitted out metal shop work area gives Members an excellent facility to remanufacture or restore parts of their beloved vehicles. Further to this the group has several qualified mechanics and body workers who are available for advice, diagnostic help and encouragement in your restoration.

To be fair to all Members we have set some rules as to how the area should operate. In addition, major work requiring a vehicle to remain at the Shed for a period is limited to 3 months at one time.

Any applications to use the hoist and/or area to the Duty Overseer.

New Groups

The Management Committee is always willing to consider new ideas for different interests so please contact the Chairman or Secretary if there is something that you would like to be considered for support in this regard.
