Mission and Values

The Mosman Park Men's Community Shed provides a friendly place for people to mix in a diverse range of activities. Our general objectives in providing this are as wide as the interests of our members, but in some defining of what we set out to achieve, the formal mission or objectives are:

The Mosman Park Men's Community Shed (MPMS) strives to interact with the community to establish the active and ongoing membership of men. MPMS seeks to engage its members in constructive activities so as to optimise their physical and emotional wellbeing; participation being through four pillars:

  • Manual arts (woodwork, metalwork, automotive, electrics etc)
  • Creative arts (music, photography, painting, sculpture etc)
  • Intellectual activities (Discussion groups, book club, bridge etc) and
  • Community contribution (Problem solving, community involvement etc)

So from that broad statement of our purpose, members find a wide array of activities to participate in.  To introduce these concepts and opportunities, there is a formal induction process for new members to set you up to make best use of the shed and enjoy the company of good men.

Our values are built round respect for each other; respect of the Shed and its amenities; and developing ourselves in the company of other good men to enjoy life and find fulfilment in the many forms that we can do that.

These values may be outlined to include:

  • Honesty and integrity in all our activities.
  • Responsiveness to the needs of other members.
  • Acting in a safe and non-intrusive way in our activities around other members.
  • Respect for the work of volunteer committee members, supervisors and managers.
  • Appreciation of the contributions by partners, sponsors and community groups.
  • Responsibility and generosity in giving back to the community.
  • Sincerity to improving men’s health and wellbeing among ourselves and in the community.
